Affordably Filling My Home

Filling our new home has been a slow and steady process, but I have enjoyed every second of it.  We went from a one-bedroom apartment to a three-bedroom house, so I have quite a bit of space to work with now.

Milton and I have been getting by with our hand-me-down, mismatched furniture for a few years now.  All of the pieces have served us well, but I’m ready for some new stuff that blends together!  If you have ever shopped for new furniture you know it is expensiiiiiive.  My goal in this new home is to fill it with things I love that don’t break my bank.

Some of my favorite places to shop include:

  • Homegoods
  • Nordstrom Rack (yes, they have home stuff!)
  • Rooms To Go
  • Kirklands
  • Pier One
  • Wayfair
  • Amazon
  • Local Antique Stores
  • Local Boutiques

I shared this table on Instagram not too long ago.  We have been loving it!  The Pottery Barn version is actually on sale right now!  But I still saved about $500 going with Rooms To Go.

This silver steer dish was a wedding gift from my Dillard’s registry.  As a longhorn and a cattle raiser I thought it was just too fitting.  I’ve used it for chips when hosting friends.  The “Chateau Sampson” lazy susan was also a wedding gift.  Not sure where it is from 🙁

A couple of specifics on these built-ins: The portrait on the top left is Milton’s grandfather outside of the family seafood market in Galveston, TX.  It is such a cool shot!  The white ceramic ball [is that what it is?] was a $12 find at Homegoods.  The agate bookend was a wedding gift from Pottery Barn, and it comes in a set of two.

My Gran actually found the antlers at an estate sale about a year ago.  Milton and I had just gotten engaged and Gran knew I had always liked decorating with horns and antlers, so she assumed I would be using some for the wedding.  She found a BAG of deer sheds and we used every single one of them at our wedding.  Now I get to use them throughout the house.  The cow skull is from an antique store in my hometown.  If you look in the right places you will likely find antlers, horns, and skulls in a lot of antique shops all over Texas.

This lady lamp has a special little place in my heart.  My mom gave it to me in college and it has had a spot in each of my apartments and now my home.  But this table!  I found this cutie at Homegoods for $39.  Unfortunately, inventory is different at every store so I wasn’t able to link this exact table.  I was searching for an accent table just small enough to fit in this wall space.  I was trying to stay away from white wood because most of the furniture in this room is already that look.  The white bedding set is also from Homegoods.  Faux fur rug is $23 at Hobby Lobby.
