If you’ve already given up on your resolution for the year, that’s ok. Sometimes we set goals a little high and unrealistic for ourselves. It is never too late to make bettering well-being your main focus, though.

Drink water

Yeah, duh Caitlin. I know I should drink water. It sounds so simple, but I guarantee that most of us do not drink enough water, including myself. Every now and then I find myself a little more tired than usual with a headache lingering, and I know I haven’t had enough water that day. Water pretty much solves everything. Thirst is often confused for hunger pangs. I have a 24-ounce Tervis tumbler that I keep filled with water during the day. I take it with me wherever I go so I don’t have an excuse toot be drinking water. Sometimes I throw in a lemonade Crystal Light to make my water a little more exciting.

Read

For the last few years I have picked up so many books and haven’t finished any of them. I can’t say it is something I am proud of. This year I’m hoping to finish all of those half-read books. Reading is such an easy way to do yourself some good. Reading lets you get lost in another world for a little bit and forget the hustle and bustle around you. Reading sparks your creativity and keeps you sharp and on your toes. I’m fitting my reading in before bed. For years I’ve spent each evening scrolling on my phone before I doze off for the night, and that is not good. The light of our phone stimulates our brain and makes it harder to fall asleep. So I’m trying very hard to put the phone down and pick up a book (honestly, easier said than done). Right now I’m reading Intuitive Eating: A revolutionary program that works by Evelyn Tribole, MS, RD, AND, and Eylse Resch, MS, RD, FADA, CEDRD. I like to keep my “nutrition brain” fresh with books on the topic. I talk a little more about that book in this post.

Quiet Time

Set aside some quiet time for yourself each day. This can be first thing in the morning, during your lunch break, before you go to bed, or any other time you can set aside to just be with yourself. I like to take my quiet time in the morning with my devotional and bible. If the weather is nice I like to sit on the porch. I read my devotional (currently Jesus Calling), then read the suggested scripture, journal my thoughts and reflections on the day’s devotional, and then pray. Spending this time with myself is the perfect way to start my day in the right state of mind. Quiet time is a small gesture to yourself that you are putting yourself first. There are days where I wake up in a tizzy and forget to sit down, but each day is another chance to do it again. Yeah yeah, that sounds super corny, but it is true. Quiet time doesn’t have to be about your faith. You can spend quiet time meditating, doing simple yoga poses or stretches, or just enjoying your coffee on the back porch.

Pamper Yourself

Another great gesture to yourself is pampering. My favorite way to pamper myself is by soaking in the bathtub. I love baths! This might not be your ideal way of pampering yourself though. I know a lot of people do not take baths. They see it as sitting in your own filth, and they feel like they need to take a shower after their bath. I get that. I still take baths though, haha. Another great way to pamper yourself is with a massage. Even if it’s just a 30 minute massage, it can make such a big difference. My second favorite way to pamper myself is to get my nails done. Something about having new nails gives me a little confidence boost that I love. It also prevents me from splitting my nails, which has been a bad habit of mine for a long time.
