When To Remove Your Wedding Ring

Waterford Ring Holder

The Mrs. Box

Like most girls, I’m sure, my wedding ring is my MOST prized possession. There is not another piece of jewelry that I love more than the ring that the love of my life gave to me. However, there are times when you really should take your ring off. I’m sharing with you situations where I urge you not to wear your ring, along with a couple wedding ring alternatives.

1. Preparing Raw Meat

This is the food safety nerd inside of me speaking. Do NOT wear your ring while preparing any kind of raw meat, or cooking in general. I like to use my hands when marinating meat (I cook with love). If you keep your ring on you run the chance of raw meat getting into the grooves of your ring or underneath the prongs. Gross! I keep a ring holder in the kitchen for these occasions.

2. Working Out

You should take your ring off before working out, especially if you are going to lift weights. Exercise machinery can scratch your ring, or even worse, knock a diamond loose. It is also a safety precaution. If you happen to drop a weight it could catch on your ring and cause a serious injury to your finger or hand. If you haven’t heard the story yet, look up with Jimmy Fallon did to his ring finger. Although he was not working out, this is the type of injury I am referring to.

3. Swimming

How terrifying would it be to lose your ring in a massive body of water?! Always take your ring off before entering a pool, lake, or going to the beach. Cool water causes our blood vessels to restrict which, in turn, makes your fingers slimmer.

4. Cleaning

Cleaning supplies contain harsh chemicals that can compromise the shine and brilliance of your ring. Slip your ring off before scrubbing your house down. It is also good to take your ring off before hand-washing dishes. The soap can serve as a lubricant which makes it easy for your ring to slip off your finger and fall down the drain. Nightmare!

5. Primping

I always remove my ring before applying any kind of product to my hair or skin. Hair products, like hairspray, dry shampoo, or texturizing spray, can build up on your ring.

A great alternative to your wedding ring is a rubber or silicon ring. These have become very popular, and come in cute colors and designs. I bought my husband a rubber ring from SafeRingz.com and he loves it. He wears it to the gym, to work (he’s in construction), and when he works at his family’s seafood market. Another popular brand is Qalo. They have a new line of stackable rings that are suuuuper cute!

Are there times you feel you should take your ring off that I didn’t mention? Let me know in the comments!

I take mine off when I sleep so I don’t scratch myself with the diamond!

So smart! I end up sleeping without mine most of the time because I apply lotion before bed.
