I can’t believe it!!! Milton and I are pregnant. We will be welcoming Baby Samp in March of 2019. What a journey we have ahead of us, and what a journey is has already been. I have so much to share, but I won’t make it all in one novel of a post.
When did I find out?
I found out on a Monday afternoon when I got home from work. I had been feeling pretty sluggish all weekend, but this day ended up being an ultimate Monday of Mondays. I was a little nauseous, super lethargic, and had no will to do anything. I felt off to say the least. Luckily, I had a pregnancy test at home already. That was the first thing I did when I got home. And boom, I was pregnant.
Who did I tell first? When and how did I tell Milton?
As soon as the test finished developing I Facetimed my mom, and that woman had the nerve to tell me she was busy and had to call me back. Haha! But she called me back as soon as she could and I got to tell her the exciting news. She was thrilled.
I took my test around 4:30 in the afternoon, and Milton didn’t get home until 9:40 that night. Longest five hours ever. I told him I had a “sussie” for him (a surprise) which is not something out of the ordinary for me to do. I bought him a six-pack of his favorite summer beer and wrote “We’re Pregnant” on a post card. I had it sitting out on the counter when he got home. I actually set up my phone to video his reaction, and I am so glad I did. His reaction was the sweetest thing ever. I’m debating on sharing it on here…
What was the first thing I did?
I went for a run. In the days leading up to this I was absolutely whipped. I was constantly taking naps or spending time horizontal on the couch. This big news gave me a massive burst of energy and the only thing I knew to do was to go on a run. So I put on my workout clothes and went straight to the seawall. I had a lot of time to kill before Milton got home from work, so this helped pass the time. I ran about two miles and felt pretty awesome. I had all kinds of endorphins flowing through my body.
How long did I wait to tell friends?
This really depended on the circumstance with each of my closest friends. My best friend since childhood lives over 500 miles away, and yet still in Texas, is someone I talk to just about every single day. She shared her first pregnancy journey with me, so I know she will be one of my best support systems during my first pregnancy. I called her the day I found out the news.
The following Friday I was to be a bridesmaid in my college best friend’s wedding. I called her to tell her the day I found out. I also wanted to tell her before her wedding because that day was to be all about her, and I had no plans of bringing it up or telling anyone else on her day. Honestly, I would’ve told her that day whether her wedding was that weekend or not.
For other gal pals, I waited until after my first or second appointment. There is no right or wrong time to tell friends. I know it is a little more common practice to wait until past your first trimester, but I was sharing the news with people that I would share it with no matter the outcome. So you do you.
