2018 In Review

Another one down, y’all. I cannot believe we are already ringing in the new year. So much happened in 2018 that I really had to slow myself down and remember all of the fun and exciting things that happened. Keeping reading for my favorite memories of 2018.

Warning: this post contains content that some may be sensitive to.

Galveston Half Marathon

One of my biggest accomplishments of 2018 was completing my first half marathon! My main goal was to run 100% of the way, and I don’t mean to toot my own horn but….tooooot! I ran the whole thing. I just didn’t run it very fast, haha. I absolutely loved training, even through the long runs done in the rain. I would love to do another half marathon in the future. Read about my experience in this blog post.

My Best Friend’s Wedding

I got my best friend married! Stacey and I met on bid day on the front lawn of Tri Delt at UT Austin. We were instant friends, and she was my maid of honor! I’d like to say that Milton and I have a little something to do with her meeting her husband, Cliff. Milton and Cliff were pledge brothers in KA and friends throughout college as well. Somehow, none of us met (that we remember) until after we graduated, but I am so thankful that these two friend groups have merged! Stacey and Cliff’s wedding was beautiful and seriously so much fun.

Baby Sampson!

Pregnancy announcement, we are pregnant

Milton and I are pregnant with a sweet little girl. I won’t blab too much about it in this post because I have an entire post dedicated to how we found out. This definitely makes 2018 one for the books. We are so in love with this baby already. Only 7 weeks and 6 days (or less) until we get to meet her.

Pronghorn Antelope Hunt

I took an awesome trip to Logan, New Mexico and shot my first Pronghorn Antelope. This isn’t something that I shared at the time because I was afraid of offending someone. Isn’t it sad how we feel hesitant to share certain things or just be ourselves online. Looking back at 2018, this is one of my favorite memories, so to heck with it! This trip was a Christmas gift from my dad to my brother and me, and it was awesome. I grew up hunting whitetail deer, which involves freezing your butt off in a deer blind while trying to stay awake and wait on a deer to show up. This antelope hunt was far more involved and required tracking and being ready to shoot from any position. With this hunt I felt like I actually earned it! We’ve already made chicken fried back strap and antelope burgers with the meat, and it is so so good.

Goals for 2019

Instead of some long list of daunting goals for 2019, I’ve been brainstorming some little changes I can make in the coming year to simply become a better version of myself.

Curse less. Laugh all you want, but this future momma has a mouth of a sailor that needs to be tamed. This has been a flaw of mine since I was a teen, and I’m not exactly proud of it. With baby on the way I figure I better straighten up sooner rather than later. Can anyone relate?

Give myself grace. Especially once I become a new parent. I’ll need a lot of grace with baby, and with myself postpartum. There is so much indirect pressure from social media to be the best mommy and lose the baby weight in the blink of an eye. I deserve to be realistic and allow myself to learn at my own pace. We could all give ourselves a little more grace sometimes.

Be more consistent. Mostly with the blog. I think it is very healthy to stay stimulated in areas of creativity. This blog is my creative space. I really enjoy creating content, and in 2019 I would love to get more consistent with it. This is also an area that deserves grace, though.

What were some your highlights from 2018?! I hope you are just as excited about the new year as I am. Thank you so much for taking the time to visit my blog! I hope you continue to enjoy it into the new year.
