I’m so excited to share my little love story with y’all. I talk about my husband, Milton, quite often so I thought it would be fun to tell how we fell in love. Right before I met him I was about to finish my fourth year of college. I was super single and all of my best girlfriends were about to move away for their first big girl jobs. Honestly, I felt slightly hopeless. With one more year of college ahead of me I decided to throw myself into my degree. I had just landed an awesome internship on campus, so that was where my focus would go…until I bumped into this guy.
My mom always told me to write my own story. Well here it is…
How We Met
Milton and I met in Austin, TX while attending The University of Texas. We always had mutual friends, but didn’t cross paths until Milton’s fifth year and my fourth year of school. Ever since he spun me on the dance floor for the first time I knew we had something special. We spent a lot of time going on active dates like bowling, jogging at the park, and bikram yoga (our first date). Only a month after dating, Milton was moving from Austin back home to Galveston, TX. A few nights before he left town we went to Blues on the Green at Zilker Park and he asked me to be his girlfriend. I was thrilled. I moved to Houston quickly after graduation, but a year later Milton’s work sent him back to Austin. After three years of moving all over Texas we finally ended up in the same place.

How He Asked
I had plans to come to Austin for the weekend. Milton’s friend, Evan, was going to be photographing a concert at the Long Center and could get us good tickets…so I was told. Milton mentioned he bought a new button down and slacks, so I made sure to bring a nice dress and heels. We took an uber with Evan from Milton’s apartment. Milton sat in the front seat and left me in the back with Evan, which was odd, but I just shook it off. We got out of the car at the back of the Long Center and began walking up the hill. This was a little challenge for me in my tall shoes, so Milton offered a hand to help me. I realized how sweaty it was and had a small inkling that he may be popping the question, but I brushed it off because I didn’t want to get my hopes up. Evan then mentioned, “You know this is one of the best views in Austin.” Milton agreed and suggested we take a picture before going inside. We posed for one photo and Milton began to take a knee.
Words can’t even describe how thrilled I was to hear this man tell me he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me. When he opened the ring box I couldn’t help but say, “No way!” I’m sure that took Milton by surprise. I then reassured him and said “yes” multiple times while hugging and kissing him. He had to remind me to put the ring on!
I FaceTimed my parents as soon as possible. They were sitting side by side on the couch at home beaming with joy. Next I had to call my best friend, and Matron of Honor, Jessica. She was pregnant at the time and almost started crying on the phone.
Milton and I quickly hopped in another uber to go have a celebratory drink at a bar downtown. As we walked into J Black’s Milton guided me to the back of the bar where all of my closest friends, including Jessica, were waiting to congratulate us.
Milton really pulled out all of the stops. I have always been impressed by this man, but he really outdid himself on this special day.
