If you’ve been following along this week, you know I had a job interview the other day.  While I was preparing for the interview I was inspired to write a few new posts, including this letter of encouragement.  College graduations are approaching and a lot you are probably looking for your first job.  Crazy to think about!  Here are my words of wisdom.

I want you to know…it will be okay.  It was not too long ago I was just weeks away from finishing school and had no idea what the heck I was going to do.  Rest assured, God has a plan for you, and the best thing you can do right now is have faith in the unknown.  Trust Him.

Finding a job these days can be quite challenging.  The best thing I ever did was keep in touch with college professors and internship preceptors.  Do not be afraid to reach out to them to inquire about any open positions they may know about.  I landed my first job out of school through my internship preceptor, my second job was with a close friend of my husband, and I came across my current position from a professor that I still receive emails from.  Your college friends and classmates are a wonderful resource as well.  I was very blessed to be active in the Greek community in college, which provided me with so many resources.  My Tri Delta sisters (pledge sisters and older alumni) are a well-rounded group of girls with experience in many different industries.  I know I can turn to these women if I ever need to.  When looking for a job, whether it be your first or third, remember to be patient.  Opportunities come and go, but it takes time for the right one to come your way.

Let’s say you’ve landed that first job and you are so excited!  Getting a paycheck is a great feeling, right?!  Let me share some insight with you, the honeymoon phase will pass and you will be faced with the reality of 9 to 5 (cue Dolly Parton).  Things are going to get frustrating, stressful, annoying, boring, etc.  You’re not going to get along with everyone, but at the same time you will make amazing new friends.  Again, remember to be patient.  These things are all part of adjusting to a new routine.  I find it best to keep realistic expectations in mind.  Just because something might not go well one day does NOT mean you need to find a new job.  Maybe you didn’t hit your sales goal one week, or you made a mistake or two on a project. Don’t give up!  You’re still learning.  Things aren’t always going to be peachy, but that is life.  Push through it, because there are good times to come.

The unknown can be intimidating, but that is what makes life exciting.  You’ve gotten this far, right?  So keep pushing.  It is only going to get better.

Are there any challenges you’re face in adjusting to life after college?  Or anything you’re worried about after you graduate?  Feel free to share your experiences in the comments below, or message me directly!
