Dress: Old Navy | Shoes: Amazon | Earrings: Baublebar | Necklace: Dogeared
I’ve had a HUGE writer’s block for about two months now. I was sure that when I went back to work I’d be more inspired than ever and would have all kinds of content ideas popping into my head. Well, that wasn’t the case at all. I finally had a morning available to put on some makeup and a cute new outfit this week…and the blogging but finally bit me again.
If you’re anything like me, you know what it feels like to fall into that 9 to 5 rut of putting on minimal makeup each morning, and barely brushing your hair before work. I forgot how good it felt to put on a full face and spend more than 2 minutes on my hair. The photos above are the result.
I want to share what I have been wearing to work. If you’re new around here…the biggest thing you need to know before reading any further is that I live in Galveston, Texas. I absolutely love it here, but lemme tell ya…this humidity is something to adjust to! Growing up in the Fort Worth area had me used to dry heat. I moved to Austin for college and the humidity there was quite an adjustment for me. Fast forward 5 years when I moved to Houston, and I had to adjust all over again! Now I’m in Galvy and I swear it is like 200% humidity every single day. I just keep telling myself that my skin will stay hydrated and won’t wrinkle as fast (is there any truth to that though?! lol).
I work at big tourist attraction on the island. If you follow me on Instagram stories you probably know which attraction I’m talking about. I do spend most of my time in an office, but most days I am outside walking all over the place from 9:30 to noon. So I have to dress business casual, but also cool enough that I don’t look like a sweaty mess in front of guests.
My solution: dresses. Dresses are a wonderful thing. They breathe, they’re cute, and they can be dressed up to look more professional. Once summer hit I knew I needed to stock up on my dresses. I found a few at my nearby Marshall’s (I love Marshall’s), and then I hit the jackpot at Old Navy! Now, I have to give props to my bestie Stacey. Stacey sent me a snapchat from work one day and she had an adorable dress on. Where was it from? Old Navy. So I went the next day.
I ended up buying four dresses that day, and now I have them on a regular rotation for work. The dress pictured above is a shift dress that’s a linen blend jersey fabric. It is super breathable, and a very tasteful length. I bought this exact dress in two colors.
For shoes, I have been switching off between simple flats and Sperry Sneakers. I like to dress it up with some fun hoops or statement earrings. Every now and then I’ll throw in my monogram necklace from Baublebar.
