Sharing the first of many pregnancy updates today. I have been taking notes in my phone week to week about my symptoms, feelings, cravings, and other things that have come with my first trimester. Some weeks are a little more in depth than others, and some weeks I did not take any notes at all. I’m excited to share my experience so far, and maybe give other newly pregnant gals a little insight to my journey.
Keep in mind, every pregnancy is different! Just because I have experienced certain symptoms does not mean you’ll experience the same thing. If you’ve experienced similar things, or had a totally different time in your first trimester please share in the comments. I’d love to chat and create a little community of comfort here on Cait and Co.

My first trimester was a doozy. The symptoms came on strong, yall! I found out about my pregnancy really early, so I have notes from days as early as week 5. Warning: my grammar is all over the place. Some sentences are in present tense, some are in the past tense. Just bear with me.

One of the very first symptoms I experienced was a heightened sense of smell. Milton was standing about 5 feet away from me and opened a bag of bugles (gag). I had no idea what he had, but I instantly said, “Oh my gosh what is that? It smells like sh*t.” Excuse the language, but that’s what came out of my mouth. The next day Milton ran into the gas station to buy his dad some scratch offs for Father’s Day. When he got back in the car I felt like I was slapped in the face of the smell of cigarettes. I said, “Oh my gosh those scratch offs smell like cigarettes.” Milton took a sniff and couldn’t smell it at all. About a week or so later I noticed a soreness in my nipples that I had never experienced before. I had a feeling it could be from pregnancy, since I had never had this soreness before, but I had gotten myself hyped up before and I didn’t want to give myself any false hope.
The day before I tested I remember feeling exhausted. I had taken a nap around 1 o’clock in the afternoon, and was still so tired that I went to bed around 6 PM. The next day at work I had a feeling of nausea lingering all day long. Like I mentioned in my pregnancy announcement post, I tested as soon as I got home from work that day. And sure enough, it was positive.

Today I pretty much woke up nauseous got on the couch took a two hour nap mustered up the energy to get ready for lunch came back from lunch and then took another two hour nap. So the fatigue and nausea definitely continued. I pretty much only had an appetite for carbs, mostly pizza. I also really enjoyed Sour Punch Straws around this time. It’s always been my favorite candy, but for some reason I just really wanted it. I also always have an appetite for sweets, and by sweets I mean baked goods, not just sour candy.
Constipation kind of comes and goes, so that’s really fun. I’m not having to pee near as often as I thought I would be. Around week five I was definitely going to bathroom way more often than I am now. I’ve been more physically active getting up and going for a walk or maybe getting on the treadmill for about 25 minutes.
My mom suggested keeping a fresh taste in my mouth to avoid nausea. I started keeping Tic Tacs in my purse. They helped so much.
I find that I get nauseous around meal times. I assume that when my stomach is empty the stomach acid starts feeding into my stomach wall and makes the nausea worse. I have a pretty limited appetite right now. I don’t force myself to eat perfectly. I listen to my body and let myself eat what sounds appetizing. I get full easily, and I have to eat very slowly to enjoy my food.
I’m all over the place emotionally. A couple tried to cut in front of me at Chick Fil A and I was not about to let them get away with it. I was nice, enough, but man I am very territorial right now. Sensitive too! I was flying out to visit my best friend and Milton sent me a snap chat selfie from work. I started crying in the airport! On the way home I cried when I told the pilot thank you when getting off of my last flight. Pathetic.

I still feel nauseous most of the time . I’m not quite as tired as I was around weeks 5-7, but I still love a good disco nap (as my aunt calls them). I’m dying to start working out again, but I’m waiting on my energy level to come back. I’m not bumpin yet, but my belly size fluctuates throughout the day. Constipation is still a struggle. I find that if I walk more it helps. Blood circulation is key. Still eating a lot of pizza, a plain toasted bagel with cream cheese is my go-to breakfast.

Finally mustered up the energy to put on my running shoes and go for a jog. Only after a nap, of course. I only ran one mile, but I didn’t stop. It was rough but honestly felt great.

Bye bye nausea, thank goodness! My energy is coming back as well. Naps are still awesome though. My bump keeps trying to make an appearance, just depends on the time of day. My appetite is so much better! Things that I had an aversion to now seem more appetizing. Eating a little less pizza and more vegetables these days. At the end of this week I went on my first pronghorn antelope hunt. It involved a lot of trekking through sandy terrain in New Mexico. I walked about three miles over the course of 3 hours and was able to keep up!
