An update that no one asked for but I’m going to post anyway: my first trimester of my second pregnancy. So far it has been same same, but different.
The two WORST symptoms were nausea and fatigue. This was all too familiar for me from my pregnancy with Caroline, but it seemed to come on stronger this time. This is probably due to chasing a toddler around. PTL Caroline started daycare three days a week right around the time I got pregnant. I came home and took a nap every day after I dropped her off. If there is one thing I learned from my first pregnancy it is to NEVER FEEL GUILTY for napping. I will tell that to every single first-time mom-to-be I know.
In order to manage the nausea I made an effort to eat more small meals. I kept snacks with me like cereal and pretzels (these pretzels are amazingly good). Ramen noodles and pizza were also a favorite around this time. I had a slight craving for salty things, making me think there was a chance this baby could be a boy. Pretty sure I knew deep down that my symptoms were so similar to that with Caroline that it was another girl, though.
Sadly, I had a big aversion to coffee. The taste and the smell. I was also experiencing constipation at this time. A very unfortunate combination, if you ask me. TMI warning: I had some leftover stool softeners from my c-section which came in handy. I also drank miralax with sparkling ice drinks. Orange mango is the best flavor IMO.
Every morning when Caroline wakes up I bring her downstairs and we sit on the couch and watchBubble Guppies for an hour while she drinks some milk and I sip on coffee. Through most of the first trimester I would fall asleep every morning while we were on the couch. Thank goodness she would just cuddle with me and let me rest. Bless her.
The nausea finally disappeared around 14 weeks. I think this was around the same time with Caroline. First trimester this go-round has me wondering if I’ll want a third baby or not. I know, I’m thinking super far ahead. Going through the first trimester with one child was hard though, and I can’t imagine having two and going through the nausea again.
I was six weeks pregnant at the Texas versus OU game. This game is always SO HOT and the top I wore was thick. I’d packed a cute tank top but I felt so crummy that morning that I just wanted to wear a t-shirt. That was a big mistake. The stadium was at reduced capacity (maybe 25%?) which was ideal for my current state. I went to the OU game pregnant with Caroline and cried after being overwhelmed by the crowd. This was probably my last OU game for a long time. Shop the outfit: similar Top | Shorts | Boots
I couldn’t stand getting on the boat during the first trimester. One time we went from our house to the Galveston Yacht Club with some friends and I about died. It is a 30 minute boat ride one way, and most of it was down the Inter-coastal water way which can be rough. That was my last boat ride for a while. This is how Caroline felt about me skipping boat rides.
Morning cuddles with Caroline and Imogene. The cat knew I needed TLC.
