South Congress Avenue has such a unique collection of spots and shops unique to Austin, TX. Milton and I were so lucky to be able to live just down the street from it all! It was bittersweet to move to a different part of town, but it’s always just a short drive away. I’ve rounded up my five favorite spots on SoCo. I had to cut it off somewhere or else I would have written a round-up of each store on the street!
- Allen’s Boots
When you walk through the door and step into Allen’s Boots the smell of new leather just slaps you in the face, and it is amazing. I love walking down the rows of boots and dreaming about owning each pair in the store! I also love the clothes they carry because it has a little Western flare that makes me feel at home. If you’re ever in Austin and in the market for an awesome pair of cowboy boots I suggest making Allen’s your first stop.
- Doc’s Motorworks
RIP. Doc’s was recently bought out by a property developer and will soon be turned into a hotel or condos. Milton and I were #1 customer’s at Doc’s. Whenever I didn’t feel like cooking we’d walk around the block and grab some noms there. It was also the perfect place to watch any sports game. Doc’s, you will be missed.
- Kendra Scott
Do I even have to explain this one? This is Kendra’s flagship store and where I bought my first pair of her earrings back in college. On any given weekend you can find boyfriends and husbands waiting patiently outside while ladies pick out their favorite stones. This jewelry is timeless and I don’t think my collection will ever be complete.
- Gypsy Wagon
This is my go-to boutique for Christmas, birthday, or hostess gifts. They have the cutest nick nacks and home décor, including pieces from local Austin artists. They also carry clothes that are super on-trend (including some for babies and kiddos). Last year I popped in for a last-minute ACL outfit and walked out with some HOT Levi cutoffs and a Show Me Your Mumu top.
- Hopdoddy’s
Probably the best gourmet burger spot in town. There’s almost always a wait…which means it must be good. I like to sip on a “Little Larry” margarita while waiting in line. My favorite burger is the Goodnight, and Milton always orders the Buffalo Bill.
