Y’all, I think we have finally moved for the last time. It has been great to have the opportunity to live in a few different cities, but I am so excited to finally plant some roots. Galveston, Texas, we are here to stay.
Ok, so let’s back up a little bit. Since Milton and I have been together we have lived in three different cities and have had six different addresses. Right after college we lived separately in Houston. Milton moved to Austin for work, and I joined him there after we got engaged. Milton and I then moved to Galveston in 2017 (I blogged about it here), and have been here since.
When we first moved to the island we lived in a one bedroom apartment. We loved the location and the complex, but when we found out we were pregnant I knew we were going to need more than one bedroom. So we rented a house on the island. It was located in a great neighborhood and was the perfect amount of space to bring a baby home to. It is the home of the lovely brick wall that I used to take most of my outfit photos in front of.
Milton and I knew that once we made it to the island that we would be here to stay. We kept our eye on the housing market last summer, but the right house never popped up. At the beginning of summer 2019 I kept the HAR app up on my phone constantly, even though we hadn’t really said we were ready to jump if the right one came up. Further into the summer we got the itch and decided to actually look at some houses around the island.
Around July, our friend Brittany sent me a text with a link to a house in their neighborhood (which was at the top of my list). It was adorable. The kitchen was lovely with light countertops and a big stove, double sinks in the master bath, built-ins on either side of the fireplace…I loved it. The day we looked at the house was the same day Caroline got her four month shots. She had been asleep all day long. When we walked through the house she seemed to light up. She started babbling to our realtor, and I could tell she felt good in the space. Two months later, here we are!
We used movers for the first time, and it was awesome. WHY have I never hired movers before?! If you’re in Galveston, we used Easy Does It. They showed up at our old house at 8 am (because it was hot as heck and we wanted to get it done early in the day), and loaded everything into their truck within 45 minutes. About 90% of our stuff fit into their truck. Because I am extra, I had each box labeled with the room it belonged it. This was extremely helpful! When they unloaded the truck, they put each box and piece of furniture in the room correct room. Here are the labels I used.
My mom came in town the day after we moved to help with Caroline while I unpacked. A few days later my dad joined us and helped us hang some big stuff on the walls. We have been in our new home for almost two months now and love it more every day.
